The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have reassigned 6’1”, 190-pound defenseman Dennis Seidenberg and 6’1”, 210-pound defenseman Jim Vandermeer to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, according to club President and General Manager Bob Clarke.
“They are young players who are basically just getting their careers started and they have done a really good job for us,” said Clarke in making the announcement. “We have veterans that are more experienced going into the playoff wars. They will be up when we need them.”
Seidenberg, 21, recorded four goals and nine assists for 13 points and 20 penalty minutes in 58 games for the Flyers this season. He is second among NHL rookies in shots with 123. Seidenberg was a member of the Eastern Conference Team at the NHL YoungStars Game, which was part of NHL All-Star Weekend. He was drafted by the Flyers in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Vandermeer, 22, posted two points (1G,1A) and 22 penalty minutes in 22 games for the Flyers this season. He has also recorded six points (3G,3A) and 98 penalty minutes in 34 games for the Phantoms this season. He was signed as a free agent by the Flyers on December 21, 2000.
