Falls es so sein sollte, dann tippe ich auf Gaustadt, da er einfach au f das Profil des jungen Centers passt!

Die Informationen, die die GmbH über den Center, dem sie ein Angebot machten, bisher rausgelassen hat, beschränkt sich auf: jung und letzte Saison [mehr als ein] NHL-Einsatz!
Auf die genannten Namen trifft aber nur je ein Punkt zu:
Paul Gaustad > 22 Jahre (bisher einziger NHL-Einsatz 2002/03 für Buffalo)
Domenic Pittis > 4 NHL-Einsätze 2003/04 für Buffalo (aber eben "schon" 30 Jahre)

History

Moved to Portland from Minnesota when he was 9 years old. He is the only player on the Winter Hawks that's from Portland. Paul is also the team Captain of the Winter Hawks. Came to the Winter Hawks early in the 99-00 season. Paul was thought to be more of a defensive forward when he first came to the Hawks. His offensive abilities have improved each year since he came to the Hawks. Paul's coming out party came in the 2000-01 WHL Playoffs, where he led the Hawks in scoring with ten goals and six assists.


Talent Analysis

Paul plays a very intelligent style of hockey. He seems to know where he needs to be to make any play work. Gaustad is exactly what you'd look for in a two-way player. He's big enough to be imposing on the defensive side. Paul's a very gritty player, someone who throws good, strong checks, and isn't afraid to drop the gloves if necessary. Gaustad also has a knack for picking up goals by staying around the net at all times. His cleans up any rebounds that come his way and puts them back in. That's not to say he's not an effective offensive player away from the goal, he's just much more dangerous near the goal. Paul's a decent passer as well, especially when he has space. Jozef Balej's been a recipient of many good passes from Paul on the Portland power play. Paul's a good skater. He's not a great skater, but he knows well enough where to go that he more than makes up for any lack of speed. Paul's also got good hands. That's something that helps his stickhandling as well as his poke checks.

Future

He was drafted by Buffalo in 2000, the first player from the city of Portland drafted in almost 20 years. It was a surprise then that he was picked up, as he didn't look like an NHL prospect at that point. A lot has changed in the last two years for Gaustad. A natural comparison, due to him being drafted by the Sabres, is one to Michael Peca. Honestly, it seems to fit pretty well. He doesn't have the great talent you see in most NHL prospects, but he's a smart player, and he's gritty enough to be a checking line center at the next level. I wouldn't be surprised to see Paul play 10+ seasons in the NHL.

Es scheint wirklich als hätte er einen Vertrag in Rochester (lt. deren Forum) für die nächste Saison bereits unterschrieben. Bei der Betrachtung seiner Leistung im letzten Jahr (vor allem Play-Offs) und seine Art zu spielen würde ich sagen, dass er bei passenden Nebenleuten eine wichtige Rolle in unserem Team übernommen hätte. The list of Rochester Amerks forwards who can hurt you in the playoffs runs long and deep before you come to the name of center Paul Gaustad.

Chris Taylor. Derek Roy. Jason Pominville. Domenic Pittis. Norm Milley. Jason Botterill. They can all torch opposing defenses in a big way. But the postseason often comes down to the little things. And that plays right into Gaustad's wheelhouse.

Gaustad is a checking line center on a team of finishers, yet he's as prominent a reason as any why the surprising Amerks worked their way to a Western Conference finals showdown against the Milwaukee Admirals.

Gaustad produced just 31 points in 78 regular season games, but posted 11 through Rochester's first 11 playoff games. He's also a big contributor to the Amerks' penalty kill, which leads all playoff teams with a 92 percent success rate.

And, most important, Gaustad and wingers Geoff Peters and Chris Thorburn have combined for a formidable grind line, one that both produces clutch goals and irritates opposing scorers.


"The guys that are going to be targeted (by opponents) are the high-end guys. They are going to forget the third-line guys," Gaustad said. "It definitely makes more room for me. There's not a man on you all the time as a third-line guy in the playoffs."

In Gaustad's case, there should be. His game embodies the Amerks' grit overall in this postseason. Rochester trailed its North Division semifinal series against Syracuse three games to one and was down 2-0 in Game 5 of that series. But the Amerks rallied to win that game and run off seven-straight victories to reach the conference final.

"When we were down 3-1 in the first series, we didn't want to have our season end like that," Gaustad said. "We were trying to focus on the next game, and the next game. We started to hit our stride."

Gaustad, a second-year pro, has helped turn teams in that direction before. In the 2000-01 postseason, he chipped in with 16 points in as many games for the Portland Winter Hawks of the WHL.

"Playoffs are situated a lot more toward my game, a lot of hitting," Gaustad said.

"He's one of the most reliable players on the team," Peters said. "And looking at the playoffs was like looking at a fresh season, a chance to start over. It (Gaustad's ability) is starting to show now, which is not a bad time at all."

Gaustad's subtle tools may get lost in the deep pool of skills displayed by the Amerks' marquee forwards. But his teammates understand the value of keeping him happy.

Gaustad's lease was up at the end of the regular season, so he moved into digs shared by Pominville, Peters and Roy. Was the newcomer given a mattress to toss on the floor and a TV tray to dine on?

Hardly.

"We're taking care of him," Peters assured. "We're feeding him and everything. He's carrying us and we're carrying him."

Ach neeeee...nur hat das eine halt mit dem anderen nichts zu tun!! Ich fragte nur, was denn bitteschön ein Name ist, der franko-kanadisch klingt...und vorallem wenn man Pittis und Gaustad zur Auswahl hat...

Angesichts der Strafzeitenbilanz von Gaustad hoffe ich, dass sich doch noch ein besserer Center für die Panther findet.

Weiß außerdem nicht so ganz, was ich mit der Info "laufender Vertrag in Rochester" anfangen soll. Ist diese Information wirklich gesichert? Da empfiehlt sich dann wohl ein Blick auf die offizielle HP in den nächsten Tagen...
