OTTAWA - The National Hockey League (NHL) today named Senators goaltender Patrick Lalime to the Eastern Conference All-Star team for the 2003 NHL All-Star game on Sunday, Feb. 2, in Sunrise, Florida. Lalime has been named as a replacement for the injured Ed Belfour of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In 42 games this season, Lalime has a 23-12-6 record with five shutouts, a 2.11 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage. He ranks third in the NHL in wins (23), tied for third in shutouts (5), seventh in GAA (2.11) and 14th in save percentage (.914).
Lalime was named the Senators Molson Cup player of the month for October and was named runner-up for NHL Player of the Week on January 13 after recording a 3-1-0 record with two shutouts in four games. He also recorded three consecutive shutouts (Jan. 9, 1-0 vs. Calgary; Jan. 11, 2-0 vs. Edmonton; and Jan. 14, 7-0 vs. Tampa Bay) and set a team record with a 184:06 shutout streak.
This will be Lalime’s first appearance in the NHL All-Star game and the third appearance for a Senators goaltender at the All-Star game. Peter Sidorkiewicz played in the 1993 game and Ron Tugnutt played in the 1999 game. Lalime will join Marian Hossa and Zdeno Chara on the Eastern team along with Jacques Martin who will be the head coach for the Eastern Conference.
