Felsner, a Chesterfield resident who owns the Quizno's Subs shop in Fort Gratiot, spent the past four seasons overseas - two in Germany and two in Sweden. Last season, he had 23 points (11 goals) and 89 penalty minutes in 43 games with the Augsburg Panthers of the Deutsche Eishockey League, considered by many as the second-best league in the world behind the NHL.
"He'll be one of the best players in our league, from what I've heard and seen of him play before," said Flags defenseman Shayne Tomlinson, who in the past has worked hockey schools with Felsner in Rochester. "He works hard on every shift on both ends of the ice."

Felsner, a 6-foot, 190-pound forward, spent the majority of five seasons in the now-defunct IHL and a part of another in the American Hockey League. In 1997-98, he played 12 games in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Willett said the Flags have been negotiating with Felsner for about three months. He called the signing "definitely our biggest."

Felsner, 32, said he had offers from other minor-league teams as well as overseas but chose the Flags for a number of reasons.
