Dirk Nowitzki ist zu Europas "Basketballer des Jahres 2005" gewählt worden.

Der 27-Jährige von den Dallas Mavericks gewann die Abstimmung unter Fachjournalisten mit 378 Stimmen und verwies damit seine NBA-Kollegen, den Litauer Sarunas Jasikevicius (176) von den Indiana Pacers und den Franzosen Tony Parker (91) von den San Antonio Spurs, deutlich auf die nächsten Plätze.

Nowitzki hatte bei der EM in Belgrad mit der deutschen Nationalmannschaft die Silber-Medaille gewonnen
